IU and Byeon Woo Seok Deny Withdrawal from Wife of a 21st Century Prince

Wartagate.com - South Korean stars IU and Byeon Woo Seok have officially denied rumors claiming they have withdrawn from the upcoming MBC romantic drama Wife of a 21st Century Prince (working title).

According to reports from Korean media, IU and Byeon Woo Seok were allegedly planning to step down from their roles due to unresolved distribution agreements. However, both their agencies have dismissed these claims.

IU’s agency, EDAM Entertainment, released a statement confirming that the actress is actively preparing for her role in the drama.

“The rumor that IU is leaving Wife of a 21st Century Prince is completely untrue. She is fully engaged in preparations for the project,” the agency stated.

Similarly, Byeon Woo Seok’s agency, Varo Entertainment, addressed the speculation, stating, “Byeon Woo Seok has not withdrawn from Wife of a 21st Century Prince. He remains committed to starring in the drama as planned.”

Wife of a 21st Century Prince is a romantic drama set in an alternate modern-day Korea, where a constitutional monarchy still exists.

The storyline follows Sung Hee Joo, a wealthy chaebol heiress who, despite her wealth, is considered a commoner.

Meanwhile, Lee Ahn, a prince with royal lineage, lacks personal power and struggles with societal expectations. The two protagonists embark on a journey to break free from the constraints imposed by their social standings.

The drama, which won MBC’s scriptwriting competition, is a collaborative production between MBC and Kakao Entertainment.

It is scheduled for release in the second half of 2025, although its official streaming platform has yet to be confirmed.

IU is set to portray Sung Hee Joo, the second daughter of the most powerful chaebol family in Korea, while Byeon Woo Seok will take on the role of Prince Lee Ahn, the son of the reigning king. Fans eagerly await this highly anticipated series, which promises a captivating blend of romance and drama within an alternate historical setting.
