Wartagate.com - BTS member J-Hope shared insights about his personal journey during his mandatory military service. In an interview with Rolling Stone published on Friday (March 7), J-Hope revealed that his military service provided him with an opportunity to reflect and plan for the future.
"I think the natural break that came with this situation became an opportunity for more exploration," he said in the interview, as reported by Billboard.
"I found a lot of new inspiration and spent a lot of time thinking about the future. I also started making plans about what I want to do after completing my military service," J-Hope continued.
J-Hope mentioned that the time spent in the military gave him a chance to better understand himself.
"I still believe that experience was very valuable. The thoughts I had during that time have become an inseparable part of who I am, nurturing and shaping who I am today," he said.
His experience during military service, according to J-Hope, has influenced his work both in music and choreography. "In the end, those thoughts have influenced the stories I tell, the music I want to create, my choreography, and the overall aspects of my work, which deepens my understanding of my own thoughts," he added.
J-Hope completed his military service in October of the previous year. After returning to the music industry, he teased his fans with the news that he would release new solo music and continue his world tour titled "HOPE ON THE STAGE."
The tour began with several performances in Seoul in late February and early March, and will next take J-Hope to Brooklyn, New York on March 13.
The tour is also scheduled to stop in various cities such as Chicago, Los Angeles, Mexico City, Singapore, Bangkok, and Osaka, Japan in June 2025.
In addition, J-Hope recently released a solo single titled "Sweet Dreams" on March 7, a collaboration with renowned R&B singer Miguel. In the interview, J-Hope expressed his admiration for Miguel, who he has respected for a long time.
"We contacted each other, and despite the challenges because it coincided with the holiday season, he was very kind and excited to collaborate. I remember sending him a personal message to thank him," he said.
J-Hope also shared that his fellow BTS members had the opportunity to listen to his new song before its release.
"I played the song for all the members. I made sure to share it with them while they were each on military leave, and I felt proud to play it for them first. I’m so happy because everyone liked it," he said.
J-Hope and Miguel will also perform together on "The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon" on Monday, March 10, to promote their collaboration.
