WartaGate.com – Netflix once again shows its seriousness in adapting popular anime into live-action versions.

After successfully capturing attention through the One Piece series, the streaming platform is now reportedly preparing an internationally scaled live-action Gundam film.

Plans for a live-action Gundam movie first emerged several years ago. In 2018, Netflix officially partnered with Legendary Pictures to develop the project. However, the production journey did not run smoothly.

In 2021, director Jordan Vogt-Roberts was appointed to helm the film. Early visual concepts were even released and received positive responses from fans. Unfortunately, various obstacles caused the production process to be delayed.

The production, which was initially scheduled for 2023, was forced to be postponed. The situation became more complicated in 2024 when reports emerged that the project might be canceled. Amid this uncertainty, Jordan Vogt-Roberts eventually stepped down from his position as director.

As his replacement, Netflix and Legendary appointed Jim Mickle, previously known for the series Sweet Tooth. In addition to directing, Jim Mickle was also entrusted with writing the script and serving as a producer for the film.

Fans’ hopes rose again in 2025, when the live-action Gundam project showed significant progress. The film reportedly managed to attract two major Hollywood stars, Sydney Sweeney and Noah Centineo. Sydney was said to have joined first, followed by Noah, who later confirmed his involvement in the project.

Interestingly, Noah Centineo is not only involved as an actor but also serves as a producer. This demonstrates the strong commitment of the cast to making the live-action Gundam film a success.

The film is being developed by Legendary Entertainment in collaboration with Bandai Namco Filmworks, the official rights holder of the Gundam franchise. This collaboration is expected to deliver an adaptation that respects the original story while also appealing to a global audience.

Currently, filming for the live-action Gundam movie is planned to take place from March to June 2026. Australia and the United Kingdom are said to be the main filming locations, although the production team has not yet issued an official confirmation.

So far, the storyline remains under wraps. However, the project is said to be an international adaptation aimed at audiences from various countries, not only anime fans in Japan.

Previously, Gundam was adapted into live action through the television film G-Savior in 1999. Nevertheless, that project failed to make a significant global impact.

As a legendary franchise, Gundam has been an icon of the mecha genre since it was first introduced in 1979 through Mobile Suit Gundam by Yoshiyuki Tomino. To this day, Gundam has produced dozens of animated series and films enjoyed by fans worldwide.

With its long history and massive fan base, the arrival of Netflix’s live-action Gundam film is highly anticipated. Many fans hope that this adaptation will deliver storytelling and visual quality on par with its animated counterparts.
