Over time, Nanoka learns that Mao and his sword are cursed by a cat yokai named Byoki. The curse causes anyone who uses Mao’s sword to suffer misfortune. However, when Mao’s life is in danger, Nanoka must take a great risk to save him.

In terms of genre, MAO combines elements of mystery, history, and fantasy, blended with subtle romance between the main characters. The story develops gradually, inviting viewers to solve the mysteries behind various supernatural events.
