WartaGate.com – The K-Pop world is once again in the spotlight following an honest confession from former idol Hyogyeong that has gone viral on social media.

Through content on her personal YouTube channel, she shared the bitter experiences she faced during her career as an idol, delivered with a touch of “dark humor” that left the public both amused and sympathetic.

Hyogyeong, who was once a member of the group ARIAZ, revealed that the journey to becoming an idol is not as sweet as many people imagine. In the video, she explained that she spent five years as a trainee before finally debuting in 2019.

Like most trainees, she had high hopes. She even admitted that she once believed she could become as successful as BLACKPINK. However, reality turned out to be very different.

With a sarcastic tone, she said that instead of becoming “the next BLACKPINK,” she almost ended up being “blacklisted” from the entertainment industry. This statement quickly went viral, as many saw it as a reflection of the harsh reality behind the glamorous K-Pop world.

Even more shocking, Hyogyeong revealed that she did not receive any payment during her three years of promotions as an idol. In fact, her bank balance was not zero, but negative.

This situation stems from the K-Pop industry system, where various expenses are charged to trainees and rookie idols. Costs such as training, dorm living, meals, as well as album and music video production are all treated as “debt” that must be repaid from future earnings.

Her hope of giving her first income to her parents was shattered. About 2.5 years after debuting, she instead received a notice of debt from her agency.

She also highlighted how slim the chances of success are in the industry. According to her, the probability of trainees truly surviving and succeeding is only around 0.01 percent. Even so, she held on for years, inspired by BTS, who reportedly only began earning income several years after their debut.

In the end, ARIAZ’s journey came to a close. The group was disbanded by their agency, and all members, including Hyogyeong, were released from the debts that had burdened them.

This story has opened many people’s eyes to the lesser-seen side of the K-Pop industry. Behind the grand stages and global fame, there are long struggles, immense pressure, and significant financial risks.

It is no surprise that Hyogyeong’s story went viral, not only because of her unique way of delivering it, but also because of her honesty in revealing the hidden realities of South Korea’s entertainment industry.
