Film ‘Nambeol’ Officially Announced, Lee Byung Hun Confirmed as Lead Actor

WartaGate.com - Veteran South Korean actor Lee Byung Hun has officially been confirmed for another new film project.
This time, he will star in the historical action film Nambeol, which was officially announced by Hive Media Corp on May 6, 2026.
The film is set during the early Joseon Dynasty and tells an action-packed story about a group of warriors carrying out a dangerous mission.
The plot follows nine individuals with different skills and backgrounds as they journey to Tsushima Island to rescue Joseon captives kidnapped by Japanese pirates.
In the film, Lee Byung Hun will portray the character Im Eok, the leader of the rescue operation.
Im Eok is described as an experienced warrior who is calm, determined, and unwavering in the face of battle.
Interestingly, Nambeol marks the directorial debut of Lee Mo Gae.
Previously, he was widely known as the cinematographer behind several popular Korean films such as 12.12: The Day, Exhuma, Hunt, and YADANG: The Snitch.
The project also marks the third collaboration between Lee Byung Hun and Hive Media Corp following their previous successes with Inside Men and The Man Standing Next.
Lee Byung Hun has long been recognized as one of South Korea’s top actors.
He has appeared in major projects including Concrete Utopia, Masquerade, and the global hit series Squid Game.
Alongside the announcement, the production team also released the film’s first poster, which immediately drew attention from fans.
The poster features Im Eok and the other warriors standing on the edge of a cliff with their backs facing the camera, creating a mysterious and tense atmosphere ahead of their grand adventure.
