WartaGate.com – The case involving alleged negligence in mandatory military service by Song Mino has entered a new phase. On Tuesday (April 21), he attended his first trial at the Seoul Western District Court.

During the hearing, prosecutors demanded a prison sentence of 1.5 years for his alleged negligence while serving his duty. They argued that an 18-month sentence is proportional to the level of violation committed. The member of WINNER is accused of failing to properly fulfill his responsibilities during his public service assignment.

The case first surfaced in December 2024, when an investigative report by Dispatch revealed allegations that Mino had frequently been absent from his duties.

At the trial, Mino appeared in person and admitted to all the charges against him. He expressed his apology and regret for his actions.

He also stated that he hopes to be given a chance to make amends by re-serving his military duty. As a public figure loved by many, he admitted that he feels he failed to set a good example.

According to the Seoul Western District Prosecutors’ Office, Mino allegedly neglected his duties for 102 days without valid reasons—nearly a quarter of his total required service period.

He is also accused of repeatedly providing invalid excuses, such as claiming illness or taking leave, to avoid his responsibilities. In one month, he reportedly attended only 4 out of 23 working days.

Previously, his agency, YG Entertainment, denied the allegations, stating that the artist had used his leave in accordance with regulations. However, the authorities’ investigation found inconsistencies with that claim, leading the case to proceed legally.

Mino began his mandatory military service in March 2023 and completed it in late 2024. Despite finishing his service, the alleged violations during that period are still under legal review.

The case has drawn significant public attention, as military service in South Korea is a serious obligation that must be fulfilled by all eligible men.

The next hearing will determine Mino’s legal fate, including whether he will serve a prison sentence or receive leniency based on the judge’s decision.
